01 / About

About me

I make complex software easy to use.

My goal is to make life easier through software. That might mean solving a frustrating problem, automating repetitive work, or making an everyday task take fewer steps.

My career has taken me through enterprise self-hosted, cloud, and embedded software, with stops at Copperleaf, Visier, and Rostrum Medical Innovations before landing at Safe Software. I'm happiest improving interfaces, building backend systems, and developing platform tools that enable engineers to do their best work.

I grew up on the little island of Singapore before moving to Vancouver to study and work. Outside of work, I'm a big fan of video games, horror films, and tinkering with side projects.

Work Experience

  1. Software Developer II

    Safe Software

    Team · AI Enablement

Improving FME Flow's codebase and engineering practices to support AI-assisted development.

    • Refactoring the full-stack FME Flow codebase (Java/Spring and TypeScript/Angular) and expanding test suites for AI-assisted workflows.
    • Evaluating frontier AI coding tools and agentic workflows (Claude Code) and establishing team-wide engineering practices.
    • Partnering with Principal Engineers to design tooling focused at enabling developers.
  2. Software Developer I

    Safe Software

    Team · FME Flow

Built full-stack features for FME Flow, helping organizations automate data integration at scale.

    • Refactored large Angular modules by consolidating four implementations of loading, permission, and job logic into a shared base state service.
    • Built a scheduled job that fetches the latest release, caching it in a key-value store with support for Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server databases.
    • Investigated an Angular feature by replacing O(n²) lookups with hash-map indexing, parallelizing serial API requests with RxJS forkJoin, and preloading API requests before component initialization.
  3. Software Developer Co-op

    Copperleaf

    Team · Self-Serve Analytics

Expanded Copperleaf's analytics capabilities, providing self-service actions and insights to critical business data.

    • Built a risk dataset provisioner in C# and NHibernate to extract Oracle data, transform it into CSV, and upload it to Amazon S3 for QuickSight analytics.
    • Integrated Amazon Q through QuickSight to support scenario-based AI chat, using Angular Signals to manage conversational state.
    • Implemented dataset download workflows with NgRx to coordinate asynchronous export requests and frontend state for large datasets.
  4. Software Developer Co-op

    Copperleaf

    Team · Core Experience

Modernized Copperleaf's asset investment planning platform for organizations managing critical infrastructure.

    • Modernized legacy ASPX pages into an Angular 17 single-page application with .NET REST APIs, building configuration workflows with NgRx and AG-Grid.
    • Reduced test execution time by 68% by migrating Selenium tests to Cypress with targeted API mocking.
    • Implemented permission checks in Angular views and backend API endpoints to restrict access to sensitive administration features.
  5. Embedded Software Engineer Co-op

    Rostrum Medical Innovations

    Team · Engineering

Developed embedded clinical monitoring software for non-invasive ICU respiratory devices.

    • Built reusable wxWidgets desktop GUI components for real-time patient pulmonary vital monitoring.
    • Optimized microcontroller serial communication during N₂O calculations, eliminating buffer overruns.
    • Automated diagnostic error-code generation from JIRA specifications using Python, speeding up firmware QA.
  6. Software Developer Co-op

    Visier

    Team · Analytics & Visualizations

Maintained and developed features for Visier's people analytics platform, helping HR teams explore workforce data.

    • Built and documented reusable Angular components adopted across product teams in the design system.
    • Engineered employee search and query models for fast multi-attribute filtering across workforce data.
    • Authored threat modeling assessments and Scala/TypeScript test suites to protect sensitive HR data.
